Abstract

In this document the design of a compound parabolic concentrator (cpc) is developed for degrading polymeric disposals using UV-B radiation from the solar irradiance. To achieve this design, available models were used, based on analytic geometry and vector calculus to compute the points of the reflective surface. The concentra- tor has a higher efficiency and a reduced cost in comparison with accelerated weathering testers in the market. UV-B irradiation was measured experimentally in this work and was compared with the highest theoretical value. This set of experiments and tests is a first approach to achieve polymeric disposal degradation using selective solar degradation.
